This garden pays tribute to Joaquim José de Carvalho (1895-1975), a figure of great importance in Palmela's history. He was one of the crucial drivers for the Restoration of the Municipality in 1926, after a long period of annexation to Setúbal. Later, he served as President of the Municipal Council's Administrative Commission, actively contributing to the region's identity and progress.

The garden itself, as it is known today, was one of the notable works carried out during his mandates, reflecting his commitment to the village's development. In 1971, the space was officially named after him, immortalizing his memory and legacy for future generations.

The Commemorative Bust

One of the most notable elements of the garden is the bust representing Joaquim José de Carvalho. This sculptural piece, currently in lioz stone, is by the sculptor Dino Godinho and constitutes a central point of contemplation and remembrance for visitors. Its presence is a continuous recognition of the man who dedicated much of his life to Palmela.

The bust is a visual symbol of the homage paid to this illustrious citizen, inviting passersby to learn a little more about the figure who shaped part of the municipality's identity. It is a point of interest that adds a historical and cultural dimension to the garden.
