The Chapel is located in Largo de São João, in the town of Palmela, a central area that is easy to find for visitors to the locality.
Founded in the 17th century by Friar Jerónimo de Brito e Melo, an important Grand Prior of the Order of Malta.
Despite originally being rich in heritage, it lost its assets during the reign of D. Maria I. Some of the objects were transferred to the Church of São Pedro, now the Mother Church of Palmela.
The chapel features a single nave decorated with 17th-century tile paneling, a detail that still preserves its historical beauty.
Recognized as a Monument of Municipal Interest since 1997, standing out as part of the local cultural heritage.
In Largo de São João, you can take the opportunity to visit the bandstand from the beginning of the 20th century, linked to the Sociedade Filarmónica Humanitária, and other emblematic buildings such as the old School nº1 (now the municipal library) and the Cine Teatro São João, inaugurated in 1952.
