The Naval Museum occupies part of the former facilities of the Companhia Portuguesa de Pesca (CPP), a company that established itself as a fundamental pillar of the national fishing industry for over six decades of the 20th century. Dedicated to the demanding practice of deep-sea trawl fishing, the CPP not only boosted the region's economic development but also established a vast and significant industrial complex in Olho de Boi.

This complex was a true driving force, handling everything from the specialized maintenance of vessels to the production of essential nautical equipment and the supply of indispensable goods.
