The Amadeu Augusto dos Santos Bullring is located in Bairro do Mouco, an urban area of the town of Montijo, within the municipality of the same name. Its presence stands out in the city's landscape, being a recognizable landmark and an integral part of the urban environment of that area.
The Amadeu Augusto dos Santos Bullring was inaugurated on September 1, 1957, marking a new chapter in Montijo's bullfighting tradition. Its construction was due to a significant community effort, which followed the demolition of the old bullring in 1950. The realization of this project was driven by a dedicated commission, in which Amadeu Augusto dos Santos played a fundamental role, advocating for its construction on behalf of the population. In his honor, the bullring was named after him in 1982. Its importance is recognized at a heritage level, being classified as a Property of Municipal Interest.
The architectural project for the bullring was conceived by Amadeu José Gomes dos Santos, son of the honored figure. Construction took place over a concentrated period, between April and August 1957, resulting in the structure seen today. With a capacity of 6,281 seats, the bullring is designed to accommodate large audiences, testifying to its relevance as a venue for events and celebrations.
The Amadeu Augusto dos Santos Bullring remains a central point for the preservation of bullfighting traditions in the region. It serves as a regular venue for bullfights, playing a prominent role during the annual São Pedro Popular Festivities. It is also home to two important local 'forcados' groups, the Grupo de Forcados Amadores do Montijo and the Tertúlia Tauromáquica do Montijo, who continue their activities here and contribute to Montijo's cultural vitality.
