Moita Municipal Park is located in the city of Moita, more precisely in the Mãe d'Água Urbanization. Situated on a west-facing slope, it offers views of the Tagus estuary and holds a central position in the locality, dividing the urban area into two parts. Its layout benefits from a terrain modeling that integrates different levels, from the highest point where a windmill is located, down to the lowest areas near the waterfront.

A Landmark in Landscape Architecture

This green space is recognized for its historical and cultural value within the Portuguese landscape architecture scene. Designed by Professor Gonçalo Ribeiro Telles in 1971 and completed in 1973, it was one of the first urban parks in the country to be conceived with a naturalist philosophy. Its design reflects an innovative vision for its time, which sought to integrate nature into the urban environment harmoniously, respecting the evolution of the landscape and valuing available natural resources.

Nature and Well-being

With an area of approximately 4.5 hectares, the park presents a naturalist environment that invites tranquility. It comprises vast lawns offering freshness and shade, complemented by a diversity of plant species such as oaks, pines, cork oaks, willows, poplars, olive trees, and jacarandas. Aquatic elements enrich the landscape, including serene lakes, a stream that meanders through the park with small weirs, and a stone waterfall with three cascades that adds a relaxing sound to the ambiance.

Entertainment and Socializing

Moita Municipal Park offers various areas designed for recreation and interaction. It includes inviting pedestrian paths for leisurely strolls or more active runs. For the younger ones, the "Boa Viagem Playground" stands out for its theme based on the riverside traditions of the municipality, featuring a multi-functional tower designed in the likeness of a 'varina' fishing boat, evoking Moita's connection to the river. There are also other play areas and a large hexagonal paddling pool, as well as an aviary that complements the nature experience. At its highest point, the structure of an old windmill adds a characteristic touch to the space.
