Origin and Meaning

Built in 1631 by the local community, it was dedicated to the protection of navigators and travelers, reflecting Moita's connection to the sea.

Exterior Architecture

Simple and functional, highlighting the main portal topped by a triangular pediment and the bell tower with clock and dome.

Rich and Decorative Interior

The single nave is decorated with blue and white tile panels from the 18th century that tell the life of the Virgin Mary. The ceiling has paintings with religious themes.

Sacred Art

It features a gilded carved wood side altar with images of the Lord of the Steps and Our Lady of Sorrows, which are of great artistic value.
