A Requalified Space

This garden is part of a larger complex, the Esteval Civic Centre, and has undergone a requalification project. The aim of this intervention was to revitalize the outdoor area, including an adjacent playground, transforming it into a more pleasant and functional place for all who frequent it.

The Art of the Mural

One of the most notable and colourful elements of the garden is a large-scale mural by João Rodrigues, an artist with roots in Montijo. This work of art was unveiled in October 2019 and gives the space a distinct cultural atmosphere, integrating into the civic environment of the location.

The Artist's Vision

João Rodrigues' artistic identity is manifested through figures that sometimes appear disproportionate, often with a melancholic expression. In his creations, including the mural in this garden, melancholy and affection intertwine. Drawing is the medium through which the artist expresses his feelings and his unique perspective on the world, creating a visual universe easily recognizable as his own.

A Community Participation Project

The creation of the mural in the Esteval Civic Centre Garden was a process with a strong community focus. João Rodrigues, who once lived in the neighbourhood, worked in collaboration with the young people from the Civic Centre itself. Their ideas and drawings were integrated into the final concept of the work, making it a reflection of the local inhabitants' spirit and participation.
