It is located in the parish of Grândola and Santa Margarida da Serra, in the municipality of Grândola, district of Setúbal, near the National Road 120, which connects Grândola to Santiago do Cacém.
This historical vestige was classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1997, due to its cultural and archaeological value.
The dam dates back to the period of Roman occupation in Portugal, reflecting the techniques and knowledge of hydraulic engineering of that era.
It is composed of three rectangular walls reinforced by six buttresses. The maximum height of the dam is about 3 meters.
Despite its antiquity, the structure was identified only in the 20th century, with its official recognition completed in 1996.
It is located near the place called Represas, making it easily accessible for those exploring the region.
