The Forte da Raposeira Grande is located in the Corvina area, integrated into the locality of Caparica and Trafaria, in the municipality of Almada, Setúbal district. A Strategic Point in History

This fort is part of the context of Portuguese military defense in the early 19th century. Known as "Military Work 13" of the so-called Linha de Almada, its construction or adaptation occurred during a period of great instability, notably the Peninsular War. Its main purpose was to reinforce the defense of the Tagus bar, protecting Lisbon and its estuary against possible enemy incursions from the sea.

Its strategic importance at that time is corroborated by its presence and designation on a 1816 Portuguese map as "Forte da Raposeira Grande", a document that testifies to the network of fortifications created or reactivated to resist Napoleonic invasions.
