Praia do Castelo is located on the Costa da Caparica, forming part of the coastline of the municipality of Almada. It is a beach bathed by the Atlantic Ocean, situated in an area also locally known as "Praia do Castelo".
Its position is part of an extensive sandy area that stretches along this coastal strip, with the inland landscape marked by the presence of dunes and vegetation.
Praia do Castelo's sandy area is extensive, featuring a considerable width that becomes more noticeable in its central section. The natural environment is enhanced by the presence of a dune system to the east, which connects to the coastal pine forest area.
This beach is integrated into the Protected Landscape of the Fossil Cliff of Costa de Caparica, which underscores the importance of its natural surroundings and contributes to its characteristic scenery.
The name "Praia do Castelo" has a curious origin, linked to local memory. According to popular tradition, the beach was named due to the existence of a nearby building with architecture resembling a castle, located near the access from the Forest Road.
This beach is frequently sought after by a young public and by people who practice water sports, taking advantage of the Atlantic Ocean conditions. Despite its extension, its proximity to the surrounding nature, such as the dunes and the forest, contributes to a unique atmosphere.
As is characteristic of Atlantic beaches, the water temperature at Praia do Castelo tends to be cool.
