Built in the 19th century and restored in 1923 by Swiss architect Ernesto Korrodi. It was the residence of the Soares Franco family until 1974. The facade and gardens stand out for their beauty and are linked to the identity of José Maria da Fonseca.
The tour includes an introduction to the company's history and a visit to three historic cellars:
Adega da Mata and Adega dos Teares Novos, where the famous Periquita wine ages.
Adega dos Teares Velhos, where the oldest Moscatéis de Setúbal, over 100 years old, are kept.
At the end, there is a wine tasting to sample some of the house's productions.
The Casa-Museu has a shop where visitors can purchase wines and regional gourmet products, ideal to take as a souvenir or special gift.
José Maria da Fonseca is one of the oldest wine producers in Portugal, with almost two centuries of history.
In 2013, it was distinguished as "Best Wine Tourism of the Year without Accommodation" at the W Awards.
Between 2015 and 2023, it received the TripAdvisor "Certificate of Excellence".
In 2023, it was awarded the "Travellers' Choice Award", receiving approximately 42,000 visitors from 70 countries.
