The Alburrica Walkways are located in the Alburrica area, a coastal zone in the town of Barreiro, within the municipality of the same name. Situated on the south bank of the Tagus River estuary, they offer direct contact with the waterfront and are integrated into Barreiro's urban landscape, yet maintaining their own distinct environment of proximity to the water.
The Alburrica Walkways consist of an elevated wooden structure that follows the waterline. This path allows visitors to walk calmly and safely alongside the river, away from the city's hustle and bustle. It is a place where one can observe the transition between the urban environment and the estuarine ecosystem, with its characteristic flora and fauna, especially aquatic birds.
Along the walkways, visitors' gaze is invited to expand over the vast expanse of the Tagus River. The views reach the opposite bank, allowing a unique perspective on the estuary and its constituent elements, such as the vessels that traverse it. It is an ideal spot for contemplating the landscape, appreciating the movement of the tides, and observing the sunset, which often paints the horizon with vibrant colours.
Designed for leisure and well-being, the Alburrica Walkways invite visitors for a walk or a bike ride. The path is generally flat and easily accessible, making it suitable for all ages. It is a space that encourages light physical activity and relaxation, offering a natural refuge within the urban context of Barreiro, where the sound of the water and the fresh river air contribute to a serene experience.
