Badoca Safari Park is situated in the Foros do Cabeço area, part of Santo André, within the municipality of Santiago do Cacém. It is set within the characteristic Alentejo landscape, offering an environment that combines proximity to more urbanized areas with vast natural spaces.
This park provides an experience of direct contact with nature and animal life. It stands out by keeping its animals in a semi-wild regime within vast spaces, which allows visitors to observe more natural behaviors of different species, compared to traditional zoos.
Exploring the park, it is possible to find approximately 500 wild animals, distributed among about 45 distinct species.
One of the park's central experiences is the African Safari. On a route taken in adapted vehicles, visitors traverse an area that recreates a savanna, where various species coexist. For about 45 minutes, animals such as giraffes, zebras, buffaloes, and antelopes can be observed up close.
A guide accompanies the tour, sharing detailed information about the species encountered, enriching the visit with knowledge about the animals and their ecosystems.
The park includes bird presentations, demonstrating the flight of various species of birds of prey. Based on the ancient art of falconry, these sessions showcase the technique and the relationship between the falconer and the bird.
It is an opportunity to learn about the unique characteristics of these birds and observe their flight capabilities. Species such as eagles, eagle-owls, and owls can be seen in action.
There are areas dedicated to the close observation of primates and tropical birds. It is possible to walk through spaces that recreate tropical forests, encountering various species of macaws, parrots, and other exotic birds with colorful plumage.
There is also an island dedicated to lemurs, where visitors can have more direct contact and participate in a feeding session, learning about the importance of conserving these species.
The park also features islands that house chimpanzees, baboons, and mandrills. These infrastructures were designed to replicate natural environments and are unique in Portugal due to their size, contributing to public awareness about primate conservation.
For those seeking a moment of greater adrenaline, the park offers African Rafting. Aboard an inflatable boat, a journey through turbulent waters is undertaken in a recreated environment, simulating a river descent.
Badoca Safari Park participates in captive breeding programs for species, notably integrated into European initiatives. This work is fundamental for the protection of endangered species that inhabit the park, such as the Rothschild giraffe subspecies or some primates.
The park seeks to raise visitors' awareness of the importance of wildlife and habitat conservation, highlighting the challenges faced by various species due to factors such as illegal trafficking or deforestation.
Within the park, there is a vast area designated for picnics, located in the middle of a pine forest, offering a space to rest and take a break during the visit.
