The Marine Park is named in honor of Luiz Saldanha, an illustrious Portuguese oceanographer and marine biologist. His dedication to the research and conservation of marine ecosystems was fundamental to understanding Portugal's underwater life. This park is a recognition of his pioneering work and his passion for defending the underwater natural heritage, serving as a tribute to his vision.
The waters encompassing the Partial Protection Zone are known for their exceptional biological richness. The clarity of the waters allows for the observation of a wide range of marine species, from diverse varieties of fish to colorful invertebrates and dense fields of marine algae. This site serves as a natural refuge and nursery for many species, being a crucial point for the preservation of the coastal and marine biodiversity of the region.
Its designation as a partial protection zone emphasizes the importance of conserving marine habitats and the wildlife that inhabits them, ensuring the maintenance of a balanced and vibrant ecosystem.
The natural surroundings of this marine park offer landscapes of rare beauty, both above and below the water's surface. The underwater rock formations, caves, and seabed create stunning scenery for observing underwater life. The geological and biological diversity of the seabed is one of its most notable features.
Above the water, the proximity to the Arrábida Mountains and its hidden beaches complement the experience, revealing the harmony between the terrestrial and marine environment in this unique stretch of the Portuguese coast, providing panoramic views of the protected area.
