Fonte da Senhora is a space located in the tranquil village of the same name, in the municipality of Alcochete. This local landmark is nestled in an environment that invites calm and observation of the community's daily life. Its position allows visitors to find a serene refuge, where they can experience the genuine atmosphere of the region.
The site, notable for its leisure and recreation vocation, has recently undergone an intervention that has given it a more inviting atmosphere. The playground now features synthetic flooring and new equipment, offering a safe space for the little ones. The picnic area has been expanded and equipped with renewed urban furniture, ideal for enjoying time outdoors. The limestone paving in the surroundings and the installation of new LED lighting columns contribute to the aesthetics and functionality of the space, making it pleasant at any time of day.
The name "Fonte da Senhora" (Lady's Fountain) refers to the existence of a fountain, an element that was traditionally central to communities and suggests a historical link to a water source. This place is intrinsically linked to the identity and cultural roots of the region. It is here that a cultural group of dances and songs dedicates itself to preserving and disseminating the traditions, uses, and customs that characterised local life between the late 19th and early 20th centuries. Their constant activity, with the recreation of ethnographic scenes reflecting daily life at home or at work, circle dances, and traditional costumes, keeps alive the collective memory of Fonte da Senhora and its people.
