The Metropolitan Biodiversity Park is situated in the Verdizela area, which is part of the locality of Corroios, in the municipality of Seixal. This green space is located in an area of special ecological importance, integrated into the Natura 2000 Site of Community Importance of Fernão Ferro/Lagoa de Albufeira. It is a remarkable element in the region's natural structure, with a development project that will make it one of the largest urban parks in the Lisbon Metropolitan Area.

A Biodiversity Sanctuary

This park was conceived with the mission of protecting and enriching valuable natural habitats. Within it, one can discover distinct and important ecosystems, such as Mediterranean temporary ponds and Atlantic wet heaths, which are classified as priority due to their rarity. Continuous work in the park aims to restore native vegetation, removing species that do not belong to the local environment and encouraging the natural regeneration of flora. There are delineated paths that allow visitors to explore these peculiar areas and understand their ecological relevance.

Routes and Outdoor Leisure

For those who enjoy outdoor activities and contact with nature, the park offers an extensive network of paths. These routes are ideal for leisurely walks, jogging, or cycling, and are connected to other existing trails in the municipality. At one of the highest points of the park, there is an area dedicated to picnics and moments of rest, known as the Picnic Park. It is important to emphasize that the entire space was planned to ensure access for people with reduced mobility, ensuring that everyone can enjoy its tranquility and beauty.

The House of Biodiversity

At the center of the park stands a building with a function dedicated to environmental education. The House of Biodiversity acts as an interpretation space, whose objective is to promote the understanding of nature and its ecosystems. Inside, a small pond allows for the observation of amphibians, offering a pedagogical way to learn about these species without disturbing the park's natural lagoons. This place is fundamental for raising visitors' awareness of the importance of wildlife conservation and the natural richness that surrounds it.
