Located in the parish of Alvalade, municipality of Santiago do Cacém, approximately 500 meters from the town, accessible by a dirt road that starts from Largo da Igreja.
It is possible that it was built in Roman times, but underwent significant interventions in the 16th century. The bridge was part of an ancient route that connected important cities, such as Miróbriga (Santiago do Cacém) and Pax Julia (Beja), passing through Vipasca (Aljustrel). Although no longer used as the main bridge, it remains a historical and scenic landmark.
Classified as a Property of Municipal Interest since 2004, it is one of the most notable monuments in the parish of Alvalade.
It was restored in 2001, with cleaning, repair of the railings and pavement, and recovery of the old riverbed. During the works, interesting elements were discovered, such as a stone used to sharpen tools and a property marker of the Order of Santiago.
- Construction in stone and lime with a simple rectangular plan.
- Measures approximately 53 meters in length and 4 meters in width.
The central one is horizontal and more extensive, while the ends are ramped.
- It has five arches on the south side, separated by semi-cylindrical buttresses, which may have served to protect the bridge against the force of the water.
- The north side is similar, but has no buttresses.
It is an easily accessible place for those who enjoy exploring the history and rural landscape of the region.
