Erected in the early 16th century, associated with the autonomy of Alvalade, after the granting of the Charter by D. Manuel I.
The pillory was destroyed in the 1755 earthquake and rebuilt shortly after. In 1921, it suffered more damage and was restored again.
Classified as a Property of Public Interest in 1933.
After several changes and damage over the years, it was restored and placed in Praça D. Manuel I in 2000, to celebrate the 490th anniversary of the Charter.
Currently, it is located in the main square of Alvalade, where it can be appreciated as an important historical landmark.
