This garden is located in the town of Alvalade, in the municipality of Santiago do Cacém, occupying a central position in the urban fabric. Its area encompasses the Praça do Município (Municipal Square) and a portion of Avenida D. Nuno Álvares Pereira, integrating cohesively into the daily life of the village. Recently, the space's redevelopment established a more fluid connection with the adjacent museum by eliminating the street that separated them, thus creating a wider and more inviting pedestrian area.
The Alvalade Garden is a space with a rich history, standing out as a centenary garden. Its recent enhancement was essentially premised on preserving its original memory and landscape design, maintaining the identity that has characterized it for decades. The attention given to its flora is remarkable; a detailed study, carried out by specialists from the Instituto Superior de Agronomia (Higher Institute of Agronomy), assessed the condition of the trees, ensuring their health and the safety of visitors. This careful approach reflects respect for the site's natural and aesthetic heritage.
The landscape and functional intervention the garden underwent aims to enhance the visitor experience. New seating areas were created, equipped with modern urban furniture, inviting rest and contemplation. The existing water channels, elements that contribute to the garden's ambiance, were rehabilitated, and pedestrian circulation areas were completely redeveloped, including the improvement and rehabilitation of the sidewalks. These works ensure the safety and fluidity of the path, making the garden a pleasant place for quiet strolls.
