The Alcochete Bandstand is located in Largo Almirante Gago Coutinho, a central area of the town, in the zone known as Várzea. Its position in a garden, adjacent to the Mother Church, provides a pleasant and easily accessible urban setting, inviting strolls and observation of local daily life. It is a visible landmark that contributes to the beauty of Alcochete's urban landscape.
Inaugurated on January 15, 1956, this bandstand was erected to mark the 58th anniversary of the restoration of the municipality of Alcochete, imbuing it with particular historical and symbolic value. Its presence has become one of the most representative elements of the town's identity, replacing a previous structure that existed elsewhere in the parish, Largo de São João.
With an hexagonal plan and a simple line composition, the Alcochete Bandstand reflects the popular style characteristic of these constructions. Recently, it benefited from refurbishment works that ensured its maintenance and preservation. These included the replacement of damaged wood and tiles, as well as the cleaning and painting of the entire structure, guaranteeing its integrity and aesthetic beauty.
Traditionally associated with music and the socialization of populations, bandstands are spaces that invite social interaction. The Alcochete Bandstand maintains this vocation, being a privileged location for holding cultural events and presentations. It is a natural meeting point for visitors to the town, where one can enjoy a peaceful atmosphere and appreciate the community life unfolding around it.
