The Church of Mercy of Tancos was built at the end of the 16th century, associated with the local brotherhood with the mission of helping the most needy.
The church was finished in 1585, with a simple but imposing facade, notable for its portal with columns and a triangular pediment. Inside, there were tiles and an altarpiece that were removed due to the deterioration of the church over time.
The proximity to the Tagus River caused several floods, which damaged the structure of the building. In the 1930s, the artistic elements were removed to preserve the heritage.
Today, the church functions as the Tancos Cultural Center, where various events and cultural activities are held.
It is located in the lower part of Tancos, near the Riverside Garden and the Tagus River, offering a peaceful and accessible view for those visiting the region.
