Situated in the village of Sardoal, a municipality of the same name, the Chapel of Our Lady of Carmo is nestled within the urban fabric of this locality. It is easily accessible in the heart of the village, contributing to the tranquil atmosphere that defines its surroundings. Its presence is an integral part of Sardoal's daily life.
The Chapel of Our Lady of Carmo recently underwent a meticulous intervention, enabling its requalification and restoration. The work focused on the recovery of essential structural and aesthetic elements, including the roof and exterior finishes, as well as the renewal of internal and external openings. The primary goal of this project was to restore the chapel's architectural dignity and ensure that the space is properly preserved and ready to welcome visitors, with improved accessibility.
More than just a place of worship, the Chapel of Our Lady of Carmo is being prepared to assume a central role in valuing and disseminating Sardoal's cultural and religious heritage. The chapel will play a fundamental part by hosting a future Interpretation Center of Holy Week and Religious Heritage of the municipality. This project aims to offer visitors an in-depth perspective of the region's religious traditions, allowing for a better understanding of the meaning and richness of the celebrations that define Sardoal's identity throughout the year.
