The Chapel is located in Sardoal, in a quiet and isolated spot, next to the Arecez Stream and on top of a rocky outcrop.
The construction is simple, highlighting the classical style portal and a small bell tower.
The space is decorated with colorful tiles and religious paintings, offering remarkable artistic beauty.
Built in the 17th century, next to a grotto where the devotion to Our Lady of Lapa began, it is associated with stories of faith and miracles.
The grotto is located in front of the chapel, on the same rocky outcrop, and is pointed out as the place of the apparition of Our Lady. Currently, it houses an image of Saint Mary Magdalene.
The site is accessible by a staircase that crosses the surrounding natural landscape. The area is peaceful and conducive to moments of reflection and spirituality.
The wooden image of Our Lady of Lapa, with a silver mantle and crown, is displayed on the main altar. There are also signs of devotion, such as paintings and votive offerings, which testify to the importance of this sanctuary for pilgrims.
The sanctuary was founded on the initiative of João Cansado, a local abbot, and has been the subject of several manifestations of devotion since its origin.
