The Patriarchal Seminary of Santarém was built on the site that once housed the old Royal Palaces and parts of the castle and Alcazaba, places of great historical relevance.
One of the original towers of the fortification was transformed into a bell tower, preserving medieval elements that testify to the passage of time.
The building contains arched doorways, sculpted capitals, and stone vaults, reflecting the Manueline and Gothic styles, showcasing the various phases of transformation over the centuries.
A robust area, with thick walls and vaults supported by pillars, which functioned as a barn, still maintains its original essence.
In the center of the complex stands a courtyard with arcades and decorative tiles, creating a unique environment that combines functionality and beauty.
Remains of portals, walls, and other architectural details keep alive the memory of the medieval period, in a fusion of history and spirituality.
