Southern entrance of Tomar, next to the Nabão River, on Avenida do Condestável D. Nuno Álvares Pereira.
Built in 1567 during the reign of D. Sebastião, it marks a work to protect the road from floods. It was ordered to be built by a local judge, Azevedo.
Simple limestone structure, with a square base, obelisk and a Latin inscription that celebrates the work.
Monument of Public Interest since 1959.
Rare testimony of public infrastructure in the 16th century, representing the typical commemorative pattern of the time.
Easy to find, near a roundabout at the entrance to the city. Ideal for a quick stop during a visit to Tomar.
