Located in the outskirts of Santarém, in the Ribeira de Santarém neighborhood, near the Chafariz de Palhais.
The Alcource Bridge is a medieval structure that was part of the old royal road between Santarém and Coimbra.
Recognized as a Property of Public Interest since 1977, highlighting its historical and architectural relevance.
Although it was once thought to be an 18th-century construction, research points to the 14th century, probably during the reigns of D. Afonso III or D. Dinis. There are also indications that it may have replaced an earlier Roman bridge.
Built in stone, it has an inclined deck on one side and is supported by four main and two smaller arches. The Gothic style is visible in the architectural details.
On the outside of the bridge, there is a stone coat of arms with the medieval shield of the municipality of Santarém, a castle with three towers and a border of castles, complemented by the national shield of the time.
Surrounded by a peaceful and historical landscape, the bridge is an interesting point to explore the cultural heritage of Santarém.
