Situated in the locality of Parreira, municipality of Chamusca, the Moinho da Água da Parreira (Parreira Water Mill) is located in the area known by the same name. This place enjoys a tranquil environment, benefiting from its connection to a watercourse and integrating an outdoor space that invites a relaxing break during the visit.
This mill represents an element of local heritage linked to traditional activities. As a water mill, its primary function was to harness the energy of the current to power the machinery required for grinding cereals. These buildings played an important role in the past in the lives of rural communities, serving as essential work centers for flour production.
The Moinho da Água da Parreira was at risk of being lost, but it was the subject of important recovery work. This process, which began in 2015, involved the rehabilitation of the building's structure and the requalification of the surrounding area. A fundamental aspect of the intervention was the recovery of the mill's interior elements, with the aim of making it functional again, using techniques that respect the tradition of its construction and operation.
With its rehabilitation completed in 2021, the mill is ready to demonstrate its operation, representing a living testament to ancient milling techniques. It is valued as the cultural heritage of the parish, with the intention of serving educational purposes and enhancing local identity. It allows visitors to understand the water cycle associated with production and the historical importance of this type of mill.
