The Bonito Green Park is located in the northern part of the city of Entroncamento, in the area known as Bonito. It represents the largest green space in the municipality, functioning as a natural refuge integrated into the urban context. Its position allows visitors to enjoy a tranquil environment with a strong presence of nature, without significantly moving away from the urban fabric. It is a place that provides a smooth transition between the built environment and the green landscape.
One of the park's most striking features is its extensive artificial reservoir. Formed and fed by the Santa Catarina Stream, this body of water creates a beautiful water mirror that stands out in the green landscape. The presence of water lends an atmosphere of calm and serenity to the place. There are areas specifically designated as fishing spots, where those interested in sport fishing find a suitable space for practicing this activity along the tranquil banks.
Extending over a considerable area, the park exhibits remarkable natural richness. The forest area boasts a variety of tree species, including oaks and willows, which offer shade and pleasant paths. This plant diversity, partly maintained in a more natural state, contributes to the park's biodiversity, serving as a habitat for different species of fauna and flora. Bonito Green Park was designed to offer multiple opportunities for outdoor leisure and activity. It features various paths and trails that are ideal for walks, runs, or bike rides. It also includes an exercise circuit for those wishing to engage in physical activity. For more relaxing moments, there are plazas and strategically placed benches, many of which offer inviting views of the reservoir. The picnic area invites picnics, while the playground and traditional games area provide fun for the younger ones and for families.
The park's origin dates back to a vision of creating a large green space for Entroncamento. The initial project involved the acquisition of land and the construction of the dam that gave rise to the reservoir. Over time, and with the intervention of different municipal administrations, the park was developed and equipped with the various facilities it offers today, focused on environment, sport, and leisure. A significant phase of requalification was completed in 2013, transforming the space into the recreation and leisure spot it is today.
Within the vast area of the park, there are some structures and zones with specific characteristics. An observatory provides a privileged perspective for observing aquatic life and birds that frequent the reservoir. There is also a natural amphitheatre, integrated into the landscape, which can serve as a resting point or a venue for small events. The park also hosts areas dedicated to specific groups, such as the Permanent Scouts Park and a space for the practice of activities related to archers and crossbowmen, demonstrating the variety of uses this green space accommodates.
