Located in the village of Paialvo, municipality of Tomar, district of Santarém. It is situated in a small central square, surrounded by old houses and close to a fountain and the old Town Hall.
It consists of a circular base with three steps in limestone, on which rests a cylindrical column of two parts joined by an intermediate ring. At the top, there is a truncated cone topped by a sphere, also made of stone.
The pillory has four iron restraints with ends sculpted in the shapes of animals, adding a curious detail to the structure.
Built in the 16th century, it is a symbol of Paialvo's former status as the seat of the municipality until 1836. It was used as a judicial landmark, associated with military jurisdiction.
Since 1933, the Paialvo Pillory has been classified as a Property of Public Interest, highlighting its historical and heritage relevance.
Currently, it is valued as a historical-cultural landmark, representing the heritage and past of the locality.
Located in Largo do Pelourinho (Pillory Square), it can be easily found in the center of the village, being an interesting stopping point for those visiting the region.
