The Rural Museum is located in the town of Golegã, in the municipality of the same name. It is situated in an area further away from the town centre, in a residential zone. This location, close to one of Golegã's external access roads, allows for a serene arrival at the venue.
This museum is a point of interest dedicated to preserving and sharing the history and traditions of rural life in the Ribatejo region. Through its collection, it is possible to trace the daily life and activities that shaped local communities over the centuries, offering a glimpse into the past and the customs of yesteryear.
Inside the Rural Museum, the exhibited collection covers a variety of objects that illustrate life in the countryside and at home. There is a selection of agricultural implements, which reveal the techniques and tools used in farming, as well as domestic and rural utensils that were essential for daily life. There is also a collection of clothing and some examples of 19th and 20th-century transport vehicles, such as the traditional cart and the wagon, which showcase the means of locomotion of the era.
Beyond being a place for exhibiting objects, the Rural Museum is a dynamic space that celebrates Ribatejo traditions. The large shed and the areas housing the old vehicles frequently serve as a stage for the recreation of customs and scenes from the era. It is possible to witness reconstitutions of ancestral activities, such as the "desfiar das camisas", and moments of song and dance that include the traditional fandango, a striking cultural expression of the region. The museum's management by the Golegã Folkloric Group (Rancho Folclórico da Golegã) underscores its vocation for the maintenance and dissemination of this valuable intangible heritage.
