The Ethnographic Museum of Carregueiros is located in the locality of Carregueiros, an area integrated within the municipality of Tomar. Specifically, it is situated in the Fonte São Miguel area, a space that houses the Recreational and Cultural Center of the Parish of Carregueiros. The museum is installed below what is locally known as the Palco da Eira (Threshing Floor Stage), a position that places it within the community environment of the urbanization.
This museum is dedicated to safeguarding the memory and traditions of the region, functioning as an important repository of local culture. Its collection is of an ethnographic nature, bringing together a vast array of objects that illustrate the way of life and daily practices of the past. Among the approximately eight hundred pieces that make up the collection, one can find a diversity of agricultural implements, which testify to rural activities, as well as antique furniture and kitchen utensils that were part of traditional homes. Folk costumes also form part of this collection, offering a glimpse into the clothing and customs of the local people.
The establishment of the Ethnographic Museum of Carregueiros is, in large part, the result of the effort and dedication of the Rancho Folclórico de S. Miguel de Carregueiros (Folkloric Group of St. Michael of Carregueiros). It was this group that, through careful collection in the parish and neighboring lands, gathered most of the pieces that today form the museum's heritage, many of them donated or loaned by the population. Originally inaugurated in May 1982, the museum has had the particularity of having different locations over time before establishing itself in its current space. It is important to note that, at present, the museum is not in regular operation, and its future relocation to an early 20th-century house is under study to ensure the preservation and accessibility of its valuable collection.
