The Museum of Sacred Art and Ethnology is located in Fátima, an integral part of the municipality of Ourém. It is situated in the urbanization or area known as Lomba de Égua, positioning itself within the urban context of this important city.
This museum space, inaugurated in 1991, is maintained by the Institute of the Consolata Missionaries. Its creation and collection are intimately linked to the missionary vocation of this institute. The museum offers an exhibition itinerary that seeks to narrate the history of Jesus Christ and, simultaneously, present aspects of Catholic missions carried out in various parts of the globe, thus connecting the sacred with knowledge of cultures.
The museum brings together a diverse set of collections covering both sacred art and ethnography. An important part is dedicated to Portuguese religious art, with pieces illustrating artistic production in the country between the 14th and 20th centuries. In parallel, the museum exhibits a vast ethnographic collection, with objects and cultural testimonies originating from various parts of the world, namely from Africa, Asia, and the Amazon region.
Within the museum space, there is an area specifically dedicated to the little shepherds of Fátima, Francisco and Jacinta Marto. This section exhibits some relics and objects that belonged to the children, offering visitors a closer connection to their history and their role in the events of Fátima.
