Located in the urban area of São João Baptista, in the heart of Entroncamento, the building housing the Municipal Museum-Library makes its presence felt in the surrounding area. Its position in the locality was designed to integrate into the existing urban fabric, helping to define one of the street fronts.
The space is directly connected to a modern public square that invites lingering. This outdoor area, created as part of the building's project, offers shaded areas that make it a pleasant spot for a break during a stroll through the locality.
The building's architecture is distinguished by its contemporary design, featuring sober and functional lines. The project aimed to create a space that was both discreet and inviting, integrating into the urban landscape without overwhelming it.
One of its notable features is the extensive glazed surfaces. These large openings allow abundant natural light into the interior and establish a constant visual dialogue between the indoor spaces and the outdoor square, conveying the dynamism and activities occurring within the building.
In addition to its function as a library, the building houses a space dedicated to a museum. This area hosts a collection of objects resulting from a significant donation by Jenny Mendes de Brito, which contributed to enriching the cultural heritage of the locality.
In this room, it is possible to observe a diversity of pieces, from art elements and paintings to various crockery, as well as different decorative objects and even a piano. The collection offers an interesting insight into different eras and styles.
The Municipal Library functions as a dynamic cultural center for Entroncamento. Regularly, the space hosts a variety of activities that go beyond the mere provision of books.
Exhibitions are organized, which may include photography or visual arts displays, as well as literary events such as book presentations and discussion groups (tertúlias). The building is a meeting point that promotes access to culture and fosters community participation in various initiatives.
