This museum invites visitors on a journey through time, exploring the origins of human presence in the Tagus Valley. It highlights the importance of early tools and the emergence of art as a form of expression, showing how these elements shaped the first communities and identities in the region.
The space focuses on the earliest periods of history, from Prehistory, and on how the sacred manifested itself in the practices and artifacts found in the area.
In the museum's rooms, there is a vast and diverse collection, resulting from decades of archaeological investigation in the area. The main core is dedicated to the Prehistory of the Tagus Valley, exhibiting stone tools and testimonies of rock art that reveal ancient human presence. A particular highlight is the Bronze Age collection, known as the Porto do Concelho Deposit.
