The Mação Swing is located in Serra do Bando, an elevated area in the municipality of Mação. It is situated on a platform that rises to an altitude of 623 meters, making it one of the highest points in the district of Santarém. This geographical position offers a privileged perspective over the surrounding landscape.
On site, visitors will find a solid and robust structure, built of wood. It comprises a panoramic swing and a visual frame, designed to frame the landscape and invite contemplation.
From the swing, the landscape unfolds mostly to the south. In the foreground, the villages of Santos and Pereiro are distinguishable, and further in the distance, the town of Mação can be seen. On days of good visibility, it is possible to follow the course of the Tagus River, including its vast floodplains (lezíria), and glimpse the city of Abrantes. In the nearer areas, the eye can reach the quartzite mountain ranges, which extend in an east-west direction. The platform where the swing is located offers a steep slope of about 150 meters to the south, contributing to the breadth of the view.
The Serra do Bando dos Santos, where the swing is located, is an area rich in history and geology. This mountain range holds remnants of ancient Bronze Age hillforts, as well as other archaeological findings, such as springs and peculiar rock formations. It is a territory that bears witness to the passage of time, marked by its unique geography.
