Historical-Ecclesiastical Journey

The history of the Church of Our Lady of Conception of Chouto reflects the administrative and religious evolution of the area. Originally, this parish functioned as a curacy, integrated into the term of Santarém. Throughout the 19th century, its territorial attribution changed, transitioning from the former municipality of Ulme, which would later be extinguished and incorporated into Chamusca. Its district connections also underwent changes, passing through Santarém, Chamusca, and subsequently, Golegã.

Regarding its ecclesiastical hierarchy, the church belonged to the Patriarchate of Lisbon for many years. However, in 1975, with the creation of the Diocese of Santarém, this parish was integrated into this new diocese, to which it still belongs today, forming part of the archpriestship of Almeirim. This journey mirrors the transformations in Portugal's civil and religious organization.
