Situated in the urbanization of Alferrarede, an integral part of the locality of Abrantes, the Church of Alferrarede is located in an urban environment, yet simultaneously tranquil and welcoming. The building is set in a small square, complemented by an avenue that invites a peaceful stroll, and is surrounded by trees that contribute to a serene and inviting atmosphere, ideal for a break or moment of contemplation.

Architectural Features

Built in the 20th century, this parish church features religious architecture with sober and harmonious lines. Its plan is rectangular, consisting of a main nave, a chancel, and a sacristy attached to the left side. The facades are plastered and painted white, with the plinth and quoins in stonework standing out, topped by pyramidal pinnacles and a cornice that runs along the upper part of the building.

The main facade is one of its most striking features, with a tripartite composition where the bell tower stands out, located at the front and rising above a triangular pediment. A deeply set portal with a perfect arch, topped by a window of the same style, lends a touch of elegance to the entrance. The tower, in turn, displays two registers, the intermediate one adorned by a niche housing the image of the patron saint. Inside, the wooden ceiling confers a cozy and distinct atmosphere to the space.

Origin and Role in the Community

The construction of the Church of Alferrarede began in 1930, a result of the generosity of a local benefactor, which demonstrates the strong bond between this temple and local history. Since its construction, the church has played a central role in the religious life of the Alferrarede community.

This place of worship is dedicated to Our Lady of the Rosary, the patron saint who inspires the devotion and religious identity of the village. The temple continues to be the meeting point for celebrations and for the inhabitants' practice of faith, keeping its primary function as a parish church alive.
