The Church of Aldeia do Mato is located within the Churchyard, at the heart of the small and peaceful village of Aldeia do Mato, in the municipality of Abrantes. Situated in an urban yet rural and isolated setting, the church benefits from its proximity to the vast Castelo de Bode reservoir. Its position offers a central reference point in the locality, integrated into the Ribatejo landscape that characterizes this region.
Although the presence of a religious temple at this site dates back centuries, the Church of Aldeia do Mato, dedicated to Saint Mary Magdalene, has a relatively recent construction history. The current building is the result of a remarkable collective effort by the community. Its reconstruction began in May 1991 and was completed in December 1992, having been solemnly inaugurated in January 1993. An inscription on the main façade pays homage to this involvement, attesting that the church was "reconstructed by the people of the parish of Aldeia do Mato," a testament to the strong community spirit that defines it.
The church features a rectangular plan, with a main nave extending to the chancel, complemented by an attached structure at the rear. The bell tower stands out, positioned on the left side façade, crowned by a pyramidal spire, which gives a distinctive touch to the building's silhouette. On the main gable-shaped façade, a slightly depressed arch portal with a simple frame welcomes visitors. Above, a window of similar profile and ornamental details enrich the composition. The bell tower, divided into two registers by a cornice, includes slits and a depressed arch window, topped by a circular clock that marks the village's time.
