The Grupo de Forcados Amadores da Chamusca has its headquarters in the Chamusca e Pinheiro Grande area, in the town of Chamusca. This town, located in the heart of the Ribatejo, is a reference point for bullfighting culture in Portugal, characterized by its rural landscape and tranquil environment, which invites direct contact with local roots and traditions. The group's presence in the town underscores Chamusca's intrinsic connection to this cultural practice, visible in its daily life and identity.
Forcados represent one of the most genuine expressions of bullfighting in Portugal. The Grupo de Forcados Amadores da Chamusca embodies this legacy, demonstrating in each performance the courage, skill, and unity that characterize the art of "pegar" a bull. Unlike other forms of bullfighting, forcados do not use any type of weapon to deal with the animal, facing it bare-chested. It is a manifestation of bravery and technique, where group cohesion is fundamental for the performance of the 'pega', a moment of great visual and symbolic impact.
Founded in 1974, this group has a rich history, marked by decades of dedication and a deep sense of belonging to its town. Since its first official appearance, the Grupo de Forcados Amadores da Chamusca has maintained a continuous trajectory, with leadership being transmitted among its Cabos, ensuring the permanence of the values and the 'pega' technique. Its activity is not confined only to Continental Portugal, having performed in the Azores and beyond borders, in countries such as Spain, France, and even the United States of America. This international journey attests to the group's quality and recognition in the bullfighting scene.
Chamusca is home to two groups of forcados, which naturally creates a dynamic of healthy rivalry. The Grupo de Forcados Amadores da Chamusca shares the arena with the Grupo do Aposento, in a spirit of competition limited to the art and the pursuit of the best execution of the 'pega'. This coexistence, punctuated by mutual admiration, reflects the true Ribatejo spirit: a shared passion for tradition, where respect and camaraderie prevail, especially when both groups perform in the arena of their hometown.
