Situated in Lomba de Égua, Fátima, in the municipality of Ourém, the Padre Formigão Space is set in an environment that invites reflection and discovery. Its location, on Rua Francisco Marto, places it in the heart of the locality, in an area of great relevance for those visiting Fátima and wishing to deepen their knowledge of its history and figures connected to the events.
This space is dedicated to the life and work of Father Manuel Nunes Formigão, a central figure in the early history of the Fátima apparitions. Father Formigão, known for his discretion and vast culture, closely accompanied the three young shepherd children during the year of Our Lady's apparitions in Cova da Iria. From September 1917 onwards, he took on a crucial role in promoting and coherently analyzing the events of Fátima, both through his written word and his prayer.
Born in 1883, Father Formigão had a solid academic background, including studies in Theology and Canon Law at the Gregorian University in Rome. This intellectual foundation allowed him to approach the events of Fátima with a perceptive and well-grounded perspective, becoming an important voice in their dissemination and interpretation.
The Padre Formigão Space functions as a house-museum that invites visitors on a journey through memory. Through the observation of artifacts, documents, and confronting facts and dates, it is possible to discover and understand the singular profile of this priest. The visit offers an intimate perspective on his life and his fundamental role in the context of the Fátima events, providing an immersive experience in the history and legacy of a man who profoundly marked this place.
