The Neptune Panel is located in Constância, on a lower platform of the village's picnic park, in the vicinity of the historic center. The area is marked by the proximity of the Tejo and Zêzere rivers, which converge a little further on, creating a natural environment rich in riverside vegetation and wide views over the river landscape.
Surrounded by a landscaped area with benches for rest, the panel is set in a calm and shaded environment, ideal for a tranquil break. Its position, a few meters from the Camões monument, encourages an interpretation of the place in dialogue with the village's history and cultural identity.
The Neptune Panel was conceived in 1997 as part of an urban regeneration project. The choice of Neptune as the central figure stems from strong local symbolism: Constância is deeply connected to maritime tradition and to the memory of Luís de Camões, who is believed to have passed through here at one time.
The panel was installed in a modern fountain, integrated into the park, reflecting the village's connection to water, an essential element of its geography, history, and cultural heritage. The figure of Neptune evokes the sea, navigation, and the classical gods that Camões so frequently mentioned in his poems.
The figure of Neptune, the Roman god of the sea, appears here as a representation of the connection between the village and aquatic elements. This symbol refers to the mythological dimension present in The Lusiads, a work in which Camões associates the deeds of Portuguese navigators with the forces of nature and the gods of the classical world.
The panel is not limited to aesthetic representation: it functions as a visual synthesis of various layers of local identity, literature, mythology, water, and historical memory. Neptune appears surrounded by marine elements, in an environment that evokes the ocean depths and their mysteries, in consonance with the vivid descriptions of Camões' epic poem.
With an area of 27 square meters, the tile panel stands out for its scale and visual richness. The composition is dominated by the figure of Neptune, surrounded by marine creatures, in shades that evoke the movement of water and the depth of the ocean.
The tile work combines contemporary techniques with classical inspiration, creating a piece that articulates tradition and modernity. The presence of figurative and symbolic elements invites contemplation and offers different levels of interpretation, both from an artistic and a cultural perspective.
