Located in Golegã, this building is situated in the area known as Casal das Flores, occupying a central point in the town's urban structure. Its position allows the building to stand out in the local environment and be easily found by those exploring Golegã's streets.
The building known today as Cine-Teatro Gil Vicente has a remarkable history, dating back to the early 20th century. Originally, it was named Cine-Teatro Elisa Tavares Bonacho, in homage to the local benefactor who donated the land for its construction. Later, in 1956, after a period of renovation, the space was renamed with its current name, Gil Vicente. Over the decades, and despite being owned by the Santa Casa da Misericórdia of Golegã, the theater has seen its life marked by various interventions and periods of opening and closing, testifying to the town's cultural evolution.
After a period of closure, the Cine-Teatro Gil Vicente reopens its doors fully redeveloped. This renovated space aims to establish itself as an active center for culture in Golegã, capable of hosting various artistic expressions, from stage performances to cinema screenings. Although the building belongs to the Santa Casa da Misericórdia, its management, in partnership with the local municipality, seeks to provide an appropriate environment for cultural enjoyment, contributing to the diversity of events offered in the town.
