Erected in São José, Abrantes, the building is located on Rua Dom Lopo de Almeida, in a residential area with scattered green spaces and local services. The short distance from the historic center allows for a visit to this space combined with a stroll through the old streets without the need for long journeys.

The exterior platform, protected by a curved steel balcony, offers an unobstructed view of the tree-lined surroundings and, on clear days, hints at the Tagus valley stretching to the south.

Origin and Evolution

Conceived in the late 1990s as a small commercial gallery, Millenium housed around thirty shops spread over two floors, complemented by a cinema that showed national premieres in the city.

Demand began to decline over the years, leading to the progressive closure of several shops and, in 2020, the cinema as well. This left Abrantes without regular film screenings and sparked public debate about alternatives.

Architecture and Ambiance

The complex features contemporary lines: an exposed brick facade, stone-clad pillars, and a semicircular volume that juts out towards the street. The curved metal balcony lends lightness to the upper block, while also creating shade over the entrance and the ramp that facilitates pedestrian access.

Inside, wide corridors naturally lit by skylights still show some original shops and versatile areas that highlight the initial intention of combining commerce, leisure, and services.

Present Day and Use

A large part of the units are currently unoccupied commercially, but the building remains functional, with its own parking and easy access for those arriving by car or on foot.

Despite its less dynamic phase, Millenium retains symbolic value for the local community, recalling the time when it housed the city's only commercial cinema; the municipal intention to recover the cinematographic offer keeps interest alive in the future of this space.
