The Chapel of Bom Jesus stands in the rural area of Brogueira, which includes the parishes of Parceiros de Igreja and Alcorochel, in the municipality of Torres Novas. Surrounded by agricultural fields and small clusters of holm oaks and palm trees, it is situated next to a secondary road that maintains the tranquil atmosphere typical of the Ribatejo interior.
The slightly elevated terrain offers an unobstructed view of the countryside, where the alternation of crop fields and olive groves stands out. The presence of a charming white fence with a yellow base delimits the small churchyard, giving the chapel a welcoming and discreet aura.
The devotion to Bom Jesus, linked to Christian worship brought from other regions, justified the construction of this vernacular-style chapel. Probably erected in the early 20th century, it served as a place of prayer and evangelization for the dispersed populations of the surroundings.
Over the decades, the building maintained its original structure, having undergone conservation interventions that respected the sobriety of the edifice. The chapel still preserves some traditional details, such as the masonry platform that precedes the entrance.
The simple single-nave plan is revealed in the white facade, with a base painted in toasted yellow. The door, made of solid wood, is framed by a stone molding, lending a slight pictorial contrast to the ensemble.
On the left side, a small bell tower rises, crowned by a metal cross and an open belfry, where a single bell rests. The geometric lines and the absence of exuberant ornaments reinforce the sense of serenity and simplicity.
The churchyard opens into an area of compacted earth, flanked by a low wall that marks the boundary between the religious precinct and the agricultural fields. In the background, twisted high-voltage pylons tangent the view, recalling the dialogue between the traditional and the contemporary.
