Casa das Candeias is located in Fátima, in the municipality of Ourém. It is situated in an area close to and north of the Sanctuary, facilitating access for those exploring the spaces linked to the Apparitions in Cova da Iria.
This museum space was created with the purpose of evoking the life and spirituality of siblings Francisco and Jacinta Marto, two of the three seers of the Fátima Apparitions. The name "Candeias" (Candles/Lamps) symbolizes the idea that these children, through their holiness and testimony, were a light for humanity, reflecting the message entrusted to them by Our Lady of the Rosary.
The visit offers an interpretation of Francisco and Jacinta's life journey, showing how the Fátima message became integrated into their lives and what legacy they represent.
Inside, visitors will find a collection of objects that belonged to Francisco and Jacinta Marto. These are items from their daily lives that offer insight into the simplicity of their lives and how their faith manifested itself in the most common gestures.
The collection also includes some objects and relics associated with Pope John Paul II, who beatified the Marto siblings in Fátima. Also present are relics of Francisco and Jacinta themselves, preserved to highlight the symbolism of the place. The space also features visual representations that complement the narrative of the seers' lives.
Casa das Candeias was designed to be a welcoming and accessible space. Its organization guides visitors on a discovery that is both informative and invites personal reflection.
Through its simplicity and discretion, the atmosphere invites a spiritual journey, deepening the understanding of the Marto siblings' story and their relevance to the Fátima message.
Inaugurated in 2014, Casa das Candeias is owned by the Francisco and Jacinta Marto Foundation. This entity is responsible for the management of the space and the conservation of the collection exhibited there to the public.
