Built in the 16th century, this chapel was founded by Father Jorge Fernandes and is linked to the old Misericórdia of Carvoeiro. It is known both as the Chapel of Our Lady of the Visitation and the Chapel of Mercy.
It has a rectangular plan with a nave and chancel. The ceiling of the nave is made of wood, and the chancel has a barrel vault. The white and discreet exterior reflects the simplicity of the style of the time.
The 17th-century Mannerist altarpiece stands out for its religious paintings and artistic details inspired by models of the time. The scenes include episodes such as "The Agony of Christ" and "Saint George and the Dragon".
In addition to being a religious space, it served as a place of social support with a small "hospital" to welcome those in need.
The chapel needs restoration, especially to preserve its valuable altarpiece.
Located in Carvoeiro, it is a location with easy access, ideal for those who appreciate history and religious art in a peaceful setting.
