The building that today serves as the Cartaxo Funeral Home has a history of adaptation that reflects the evolution of local needs. For approximately two decades, this space has served its current function, but its origin dates back to a time when it was the old parish hall. This transformation, from a community space to a place of tribute, demonstrates a building's capacity to reinvent itself. More recently, the site underwent a comprehensive refurbishment project, which aimed to improve its infrastructure and comfort for users.
The recent refurbishment of the Funeral Home focused on creating an environment that is both functional and welcoming. The building's interior now benefits from a lowered ceiling, contributing to a sense of greater intimacy. Two larger and air-conditioned rooms were created, each approximately 28 square meters, designed to provide a dignified and private space. The design of the space included a focus on natural light, ensured by glass doors, which permeates both the rooms and the corridor, avoiding a somber atmosphere. The floor was carefully restored and varnished. Accessibility was also a priority, with the introduction of an access ramp and the installation of a bathroom adapted for people with reduced mobility, ensuring that the building is fully accessible.
