The Old Olive Mill of São Guilherme is located in the Praça de Lobos area, in the village of Nossa Senhora do Pranto, in the municipality of Ferreira do Zêzere. It is situated near the São Guilherme stream, which gives the area a tranquil atmosphere connected to the surrounding natural landscape.

Memory of Olive Oil Production

This unique building is an old olive oil mill, a testament to the traditional practices of producing this essential food in the region. Its existence refers to the rural and economic history of the municipality, showing how olive oil was made in the past. It thus represents a link to the past and to the ways of life that shaped the territory.

Structure and Preserved Elements

The São Guilherme Mill retains its original structure, characterized by an elongated floor plan and few openings. The gable roof extends over a small porch at the main entrance, supported by columns. Inside, it is still possible to observe part of the primitive equipment, such as the galgas, which were the large stones used to crush the olives, and the wall where the wheel that activated the milling mechanism was located.

A Rehabilitated Space for Culture

Recently, the Old Olive Mill of São Guilherme underwent a careful rehabilitation, which allowed its historical features to be preserved while adapting it for a new use. Currently, this site hosts various cultural events, offering an authentic and enriching setting for community and artistic activities.
