It is located in the parish of Alpiarça, in the district of Santarém, on agricultural land of Quinta dos Patudos, accessible by the EN 118.
This site includes a settlement and necropolises from the Bronze Age and Iron Age, as well as vestiges of Roman occupation. It has been recognized for its archaeological relevance since the early 20th century.
, A fortified castro, surrounded by walls built with earth and wood, approximately 1150 meters in length.
, An acropolis (elevated area) surrounded by additional walls, now partially disappeared.
, Two main necropolises:
, Tanchoal (to the north): Cremation necropolis with ash urns, associated with objects such as axes, bronze bracelets, and decorated ceramics.
, Meijão (to the south): Another funerary area, also with significant vestiges.
, Materials found include handmade ceramics, some with burnished ornaments, known as "Alpiarça-type ceramics," in addition to urns and samples of charcoal and bones.
The site was used throughout various periods, from the Iron Age to the Roman period, evidencing its strategic and cultural importance.
, The first systematic investigations were conducted in 1973 by Portuguese archaeologists, such as Gustavo Marques.
, In 1979, German archaeologists carried out studies at Cabeço da Bruxinha and Alto do Castelo, finding more relevant materials.
, The archaeological site is located on a plateau with a wide view over the region.
, It is surrounded by streams that delimit the areas of the necropolises, such as Ribeira do Forno and Ribeira da Atela.
Many of the discovered objects, including ceramics, urns, and bronze artifacts, are exhibited at the Museu da Casa dos Patudos (Alpiarça) and the Museu Antropológico da Universidade do Porto.
The archaeological stations are classified as Property of Public Interest since 1977.
