Situated in the heart of Maia City, in the area known as Barreiros, Maia Zoo offers a point of contact with nature right in the urban center. Its central position in the city facilitates access and integrates this green space into the daily lives of locals and visitors.
The Zoo houses a significant variety of animal life, with over 330 animals distributed among approximately 110 distinct species. This diversity allows visitors to observe creatures from different habitats and origins, from mammals to birds, amphibians, and reptiles.
One of the highlights of Maia Zoo is its reptile house, considered the largest in the country. This space invites exploration into a universe often shrouded in mystery. It is possible to observe up close a wide range of reptiles, including various species of snakes, crocodiles, and iguanas, some of which evoke the era of dinosaurs. The environment was created to provide an immersive experience, also featuring other intriguing creatures such as scorpions, tarantulas, nocturnal animals, and even piranhas, always maintaining visitor safety.
A notable activity at the Zoo is the free-flight demonstrations with birds of prey. This experience allows visitors to appreciate the dexterity and beauty of these birds in full flight, in a controlled setting, providing a unique perspective on their natural behavior and aerial capabilities.
Maia Zoo strives to create an environment that benefits both the animals and the visitors. The quality of the facilities and the well-being of the animal "guests" are a priority. For visitors, the space offers the opportunity to experience nature and biodiversity in a well-maintained and educational environment, even within an urbanized area.
